Looking for a colourful and creative activity that keeps little hands busy and sparks big imagination? Try making Rainbow Pasta Necklaces! This simple, low-mess craft is perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and young kids—and it’s a great way to combine art and fine motor skills.

🧺 What You’ll Need:

  • Uncooked pasta (penne or rigatoni works best)
  • Food coloring
  • Resealable plastic bags
  • Rubbing alcohol or vinegar
  • Baking paper or tray
  • Yarn or string
  • Scissors
  • Optional: glitter, stickers for extra flair!

    🎨 How to Make It:

    Step 1: Colour the Pasta

    1. Place pasta in a ziplock bag (about 1 cup per color).
    2. Add a few drops of food colouring and 1 teaspoon of vinegar or rubbing alcohol.
    3. Seal the bag and shake it until the pasta is evenly coated.
    4. Pour onto a baking tray lined with paper and let it dry completely (about an hour).

    Step 2: Get Creative!

Once dry, lay out the pasta and let your child pick their favorite colours.

    Step 3: String It Up

Cut a piece of yarn long enough for a necklace. Tape one end to make threading easier. Let your child thread the pasta onto the string—great for hand-eye coordination!

    Step 4: Tie & Wear

Once full, tie the ends together and voila—your little artist has their own colorful creation to wear or gift!

    💡 Why Kids Love It:

    • They get to choose their own colours and patterns
    • It feels like a fun mix of cooking, science, and art
    • They can wear it with pride or gift it to someone special

    🧠 Learning Boost:

    • Encourages creativity and independence
    • Develops fine motor skills
    • Teaches colour recognition and patterning
